Borge Nielsen, 82, Easton Furniture Importer

EASTON, Conn. – Borge Nielsen of Easton died Jan. 14, surrounded by family. He was 82.

Nielsen was born in Randers, Denmark, to Soren C. and Anna M. Nielsen. Educated in Denmark, he attended the Copenhagen School of Economics and Business Administration before coming to the U.S. in 1954.

Early in his career, Nielsen worked as a principal sales representative and direct importer of Scandinavian gift and housewares products. For nearly 40 years, he was an independent representative for Caspari, Inc.

Nielsen also created a chain of Scandinavian furniture stores in Connecticut and New York. He traveled all over the world and had a great appreciation for nature, art, music and literature, his family said.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa B. Nielsen; a son, Peter (Claudia) Nielsen, of Easton; a daughter, Kirsten (Donald T.) Weed, of Miami; three grandchildren and a niece. He was predeceased by a sister, Else Mikkelsen.

A celebration-of-life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Easton Congregational Church. Interment will be private. Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Aspetuck Land Trust or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
