Mill River Adds a Fundraising Head

The Mill River Collaborative has announced the staff addition this week of Catherine Onyemelukwe, the organization's new capital campaign director.

"I am very pleased to join the Mill River Collaborative. I look forward to meeting the board, donors, and members, as well as others in the community," Onyemelukwe said in a statement. "I believe that with the support of Stamford and surrounding residents and businesses we will have a successful campaign and an attractive and inviting park."

Onyemelukwe will help guide the collaborative's ongoing effort to redevelop Mill River Park and transform it into an inviting, family-destination urban park.

"We are fortunate to have Catherine on board with us for the capital campaign. We've made a strong start, but have a long way to go to fund our vision for a vibrant park in Stamford Downtown," said collaborative Chairman Arthur Selkowitz.

Onyemelukwe has been a Westport resident for the past 17 years. Previously she was the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition's director of development and communications. She has worked as a fundraiser for the former Westport/Weston YMCA (now the Westport Family Y). She attained the status of certified fundraising executive, with the CFRE designation, four years ago. Onyemelukwe is active with TEAM Westport. Active in the Unitarian Church, she is president of the board of the Unitarian-Universalist United Nations Office.

Onyemelukwe's position was funded in part by the Fairfield County Community Foundation. The collaborative will greatly benefit from her knowledge and experience, collaborative Executive Director Milton Puryear said. He added that it is "committed not only to building this exciting and inviting park and greenway, but also to assuring its maintenance and programming for Stamford and the surrounding communities."
