The carnival will kick off with the blessing of the animals at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis, and the carnival will run from noon to 6 p.m. It will all be held on the church grounds, 35 Norfield Road.
All are welcome to bring pets to the church parking lot (you need not be a parishioner) where the Rev. Michael Dunn will bless the animals with holy water and a special prayer. Each pet also will receive a special medal to commemorate St.Francis’ love of animals.
Then the day will turn to the games. Admission to the carnival is free for all ages, and $20 unlimited ride bracelets will be sold on site. This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever, with rides such as Defender Dome, Laser Tag, Red Neck Games, a Surf machine, Bungee and more.
In addition to traditional carnival fare such as hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, cotton candy and caramel apples, there will be numerous food vendors serving lobster rolls, pulled pork, brisket mac and cheese, homemade waffles and more.
There also will be live music hosted by a disc jockey, plenty of games, two obstacle courses, a raffle and prizes, like an iPad4, designer sunglasses, gift baskets and more than 100 mystery boxes filled with gift cards valued at $10 and above.
In addition, this year there will be a tag sale located in the parish hall, and several local artisans will be selling handmade crafts throughout church grounds.
