Dance Studio Is Making a Move

The Dance Collective in Westport has quadrupled in size since taking its first steps two years ago, outgrowing its space at 275 Post Road East.

But dance fans needn't worry. In a few months, space will no longer be an issue.

"Around Nov. 1, we're moving," said co-owner Amanda Parton. "We're going to have a much bigger space now."

London-born Parton and co-owner Enrique Alarcon, from Peru, teach Latin, jazz, contemporary, ballroom and fitness classes to adults of all skill levels. Children, teen and young adult dancers are offered Latin, jazz and contemporary lessons. Musical theater training is also available for teens and young adults.

Though the number of students has mushroomed from 60 to 240, space is not the only reason for the move. The other problem is visibility.

"We're literally underground," Parton said. "I can't tell you how many people have called and said, 'I'm here but I can't find the studio.' At the new location, we're going be on the road and I think that'll make a big difference."

At about 2,000-square feet, the new studio at 222 Post Road West is almost twice the size of the current one, but that's not all.

"The new space is just beautiful," Parton said. "It's going feel entirely different from where we're dancing now. There are floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall letting light flood in. The space is much squarer, making it easier for dancers to see the instructors, and the ceilings are really high. We can't wait; we wish we were there now."

Classes run Monday through Saturday. For a full schedule, visit The Dance Collective online.
