WESTON, Conn. Even the family pet can get in on the act when Weston's St. Francis of Assisi Parish holds its second annual carnival on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Residents are encouraged to bring their cats, dogs and what-have-you to receive a blessing from Father Michael Dunn at the carnival's 10 a.m. start. Each animal will also receive a medal courtesy of the church, which is named after the patron saint of animals.
For two-legged carnival-goers there will be rides, a rock-climbing wall, a bungee jump, a mechanical bull and an obstacle course and face painting and games for the kids.
The menu will feature hot dogs and hamburgers, sausage and pepper sandwiches, grilled chicken and tasty desserts. There will also be a beer and wine booth.
A raffle is planned, with the top prize a 5,500-watt portable generator with a mobility cart.
Raffle tickets are $10. Passes for unlimited rides are $20.
The carnival is part of the churchs revitalization, begun two years ago when Father Dunn took over, said Sandra Jester, a church member who coordinated the event.
About 500 attended last years inaugural carnival, and more are expected this year because more planning has gone into the event, she said.
The carnival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, Oct. 13.
