A mouse was in the house, whoops, car, and it was no laughing matter after the vehicle caught fire. A mouse, or mice, are probably the culprit in a vehicle fire doused by members of the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company in Monroe around 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29. The department said they responded to the report of a fire on the Monore Turnpike and found the engine bay of the vehicle on fire. Update: Route 34 in Monroe reopened to traffic in both directions at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Crash Involving School Bus Closes Route 34 In Monroe At Stevenson Dam
MONROE, Conn. -- An accident involving a school bus has closed part of Route 34 in Monroe at the Stevenson Dam near the Oxford town line Wednesday. Monroe Police said the collision involved a school bus with no students on board. The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department said at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday that crews were responding to the major motor vehicle accident. Route 34 is closed between Route 111 and the Oxford town line. Monroe Firefighters Battle House Blaze In Freezing Temperatures
MONROE, Conn. — Monroe volunteer firefighters were out on a frigid New Year's Day to battle a blaze in a home on Elm Street, according to a Facebook post. The fire was at 689 Elm Street, which was closed in the area while crews were working at about 2 p.m., according to the department. It was the fourth call of the day for crews, who battled an earlier chimney fire, according to the Facebook post. The Stepney Fire Department and Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company provided mutual aid, and White Hills Fire Company from Shelton responded as the RIT.
