Fairfield County's Peter Buck, Subway Co-Founder, Dies At Danbury Hospital
Fairfield County's Peter Buck, who became a billionaire after making a small investment in the sandwich shop that later became Subway, has died.
Buck, a longtime Danbury resident, died Thursday, Nov. 18, at Danbury Hospital, the company announced. A cause of death was not released. He was 90 years old.
In a statement by Subway CEO John Chidse, he praised Buck for his hands-on leadership style.

Man Killed After Hitting Parked Tractor-Trailer In Connecticut
A 31-year-old New York man was killed after his vehicle struck a parked tractor-trailer in Connecticut.
Christopher Ortiz, of Watertown, in Jefferson County, was found dead around 12:06 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, when Waterbury police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of South Main Street at Verzier Street, in Waterbury, said Sgt. Davis.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white 2005 Nissan Altima had traveled from the northbound lane of traffic into the southbound lane and struck a parked unoccupied tractor-trailer, Davis said.

A co-owner of Frank Pepe's, ranked No. 1 on Daily Meal's list of the 101 best pizzerias in America each of the last three years, has died.
Gary Bimonte died on Wednesday, April 7.
Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, which has 12 locations in the Northeast (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island), announced his death on the Facebook page of its flagship New Haven location and said the New Haven location would be closed Thursday, April 8.

A popular NBC New York reporter has died at age 47, the station announced.
Katherine Creag, who was working as recently as Wednesday, Feb. 10, died unexpectedly later that night from unknown causes.
“For 10 years Kat was one of our cornerstones, always willing to help in any situation, whether it was a colleague in need of a shift that needed to be covered,” WNBC’s Vice President of news, Amy Morris, said in an email to the staff this week.

Tech Entrepreneur Tony Hsieh, 46, Dies From Injuries In CT House Fire
Tony Hsieh, the retired CEO of online shoe and clothing retailer Zappos, died at age 46 from injuries sustained in a fire at a Connecticut home.
The blaze broke out on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in New London, and Hsieh died from his injuries on Friday, Nov. 27 at Bridgeport Hospital with his family by his side, according to KLAS 8 News Now in Las Vegas, where Zappos' headquarters is located.
Hsieh retired as Zappos CEO in August 2020 after 21 years. Before joining Zappos, he sold LinkExchange, an Internet advertising network, to Microsoft in 1998 for $265 million.

Melinda Segunda Pritchett, 37 -- originally of New London, CT -- went in for a routine induction on Friday, Sept. 4, but required an emergency C-section due to a fetal heart rate complication, a GoFundMe page says.
