Man's Body Found In Wooded Area At CT State Park
This story has been updated. A man's body was in a wooded area at a Connecticut state park. The incident took place in Litchfield County around 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Stillwater Pond State Park in Torrington, according to Paul Copleman, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. According to Copleman, the man is 35 years old. "There is no threat to the public," he said. "We are grateful for the assistance of the Torrington Police Department." Bear Sightings On Rise In Connecticut, Newly Released Stats Show
Residents in Connecticut could only grin and bear it in 2018, as the number of black bear sightings reported in the state reached a new high. From Jan. 9 through Dec. 12 last year, the Connecticut State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported that there were 8,936 sightings, up more than 1,200 from the 7,674 sightings in 2017. Seen One? List Of Black Bear Sightings In Fairfield County, State Released
Once a rare sight, the black bear is making a comeback in Fairfield County -- and statewide. The Connecticut State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reported that a total of 7,493 black bear sightings have been reported in Connecticut in the past year, from Aug. 10, 2017 to Aug. 5 of this year, including hundreds in Fairfield County.
