Pleasure Beach Reopens After Tick Treatments, Bridgeport Officials Say After an outbreak of ticks, one of Fairfield County's favorite beaches will reopen this weekend. The City of Bridgeport announced on Friday, July 7, it had completed multiple tick applications and would reopen on Saturday, July 8. Two Owls Have Been Struck, Killed By Vehicles In Monroe In As Many Weeks Two owls have been struck and killed by vehicles in Fairfield County in the past two weeks. Motorists are being advised by Animal Control in Monroe to be on the alert for low-flying owls following the second fatal owl strike in the past two weeks.  Officials said the latest incident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 18 when a driver reported an injured owl on the side of the Monroe Turnpike. An animal control officer responded to the scene and found that the owl had already died. The latest death comes less than two weeks after a similar report in Monroe.
