Ellen Bree Burns, First Federal Female Judge In CT, Dies
Retired U.S. District Judge Ellen Bree Burns who was the first female judge in Connecticut, died Monday, June 3 in New Haven. She was 95. A resident of Hamden most of her life, she was a graduate of Albertus Magnus College and Yale Law School. After 25 years in the state's Legislative Commissioners' Office, she had a long career as a state and federal judge, named Connecticut's first female Superior Court Judge in 1974, and the first female Federal Judge in the state in 1978. Monroe Man Suing College Over Safety Of His Daughter
A Fairfield County father is attempting to recoup payments he made to a college in Connecticut, suing and claiming that the school is unable to keep his daughter safe following an alleged assault. Monroe resident Paul Lisi is demanding that Albert Magnus College in East Hartford refund his payments of approximately $11,000, alleging that his daughter - who now attends another school - was assaulted twice on campus. St. Joseph Names New Varsity Basketball Coach
St Joseph High School in Trumbull announced Friday it has hired Kevin Wielk to serve as the new varsity head coach for boys basketball. Wielk, a 1995 graduate and former St Joe’s high school basketball player under the legendary Vito Montelli, will replace former coach Paul Dudzinski, who was let go in June. “We are very excited to have Kevin Wielk join our coaching staff,” said Kevin Butler, assistant principal for Athletics. “Kevin brings a wealth of experience from all levels of basketball, having coached youth AAU, high school, and for the past 10 years at the collegiate level.
