Monroe firefighters left their families on Christmas Eve to respond to two calls about a wood stove issue and an oven fire, according to a post on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page.

While neither incident was serious, firefighters said each was perfect evidence that the town's volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Posting a picture of some volunteers early on Christmas morning, the department paused to wish the community a Merry Christmas and a happy Hanukkah.
