TRUMBULL, Conn. — A Stratford man accused of abducting his ex-girlfriend and viciously assaulting her was on probation for sexually assaulting a minor and had not registered as a sex offender, according to the Connecticut Post.

Police said 24-year-old David Gonzalez went to Trumbull on June 11 to help his ex-girlfriend, whose car had broken down on Quarry Road. When he arrived and saw evidence on her phone of a conversation with another man, he became angry and took her keys and phone, police said.

When the woman went into his car to get her keys and phone back, he punched her and drove away with her in the car, police said. During the ride, he punched her several times, hit her in the ankle with a wrench and strangled her with an electrical cord, according to police. He eventually pushed her out of the car in Bridgeport and drove away, according to police.

He was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, criminal violation of a protective order, and disorderly conduct.

Gonzalez had previously been ordered to stay away from the ex-girlfriend after he assaulted her last year in Bridgeport, according to the Connecticut Post.

Gonzalez was convicted in 2012 with second-degree sexual assault, according to the Connecticut Post. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, which was suspended after he served 18 months, as well as 10 years of probation, according to the Post. He was charged with violation of probation when he did not register as a sex offender, the Connecticut Post reported.

At his arraignment on Thursday, Gonzalez was ordered held on $300,000 bond, according to the Connecticut Post.
