The medal is awarded to veterans who served in a time of war and were residents of Connecticut at the time of being called to active duty, or who live in Connecticut on the award date.
State Reps. Dave Rutigliano (R-Trumbull) and Laura Devlin (R-Fairfield), along with State Sen. Marilyn Moore (D-Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull) were on hand to recognize the residents who served in a time of war and had not previously received the state award.
“Our veterans can’t be fully paid back for all of their service and sacrifice to our country, but these medals represent our gratitude for all they’ve done for us,” said Rutigliano.
The event was particularly meaningful for Devlin, whose father took part in the D-Day landing and Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
“Presenting these brave veterans with the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal is the least we can do for their tremendous service to our country and our state,” she said.
The Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs is currently accepting Wartime Service Medal applications.
Awards may be made posthumously for veterans who died on or after Jan. 1, 2000.
