TRUMBULL, Conn. — Residential Waste Systems joined together with Toys for Tots at Trumbull Town Hall to collect toys for needy children while offering a bit of pre-holiday fun for the kids.

At the weekend, kids were able to explore, climbing outside the trucks and sitting inside them while the RWS employees accepted donations of toys.

Toys for Tots, founded in 1947 by reservist Maj. Bill Fredericks and run by the Marine Corps, distributes toys to families that can't otherwise afford Christmas gifts for their kids.

"The purpose of this event was that it was a community event to get people from the surrounding towns to get together for a good cause," said JR Bria, an employee of RWS.

Bria applauded the generosity of the people who came out and supported the cause. He hopes that next year will see an even bigger turnout.

One of the highlights for the kids was a garbage truck on display decorated with Christmas lights. Santa was also on hand. Kids received free RWS shirts, and free food was provided by Vazzy's for families to enjoy.

RWS is based in Monroe and serves the communities of Trumbull, Monroe, Easton and Bethany.

Over 150 people turned out for the event.

"The first selectmen for Monroe and Trumbull were great in helping us out. Both Tim and Steve really do their part and RWS appreciates that. Thanks to all who came out," says Bria.
