Sisters Lori Miller and Courtney DeLallo, who opened The Mason Jar in October, 2015, recently gave more than $2,000 worth of new apparel including jeans, sweaters, dresses and tops in a variety of sizes to the Bridgeport-based Center for Family Justice (CFJ).
CFJ serves victims of domestic and sexual violence and child abuse in six local communities including Monroe, Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull. Miller and DeLallo recently presented the items to Debra A. Greenwood, CFJ’s President/CEO and a Monroe resident.
“We want to do things that support women’s causes and we were familiar with the work that CFJ does and immediately thought of them,” explained Miller. “These were things leftover from our fall/winter inventory and it just didn’t make sense to keep them in a stockroom when we felt someone else could benefit.”
Greenwood said CFJ is “extremely grateful” for the support. The donated apparel will be used to provide new clothing to residents of Kathie’s Place, CFJ’s domestic violence shelter, as well as other clients in need of new clothing.
“Our clients come to us at difficult times in their lives,” said Greenwood. “Often, they leave their homes quickly as they flee an abusive spouse or partner. This clothing is greatly appreciated and also will give our clients the emotional boost of having something pretty and new to wear.”
According to Miller, a Fairfield resident, The Mason Jar team plans to continue making donations to CFJ throughout the year as its inventory transitions from season to season. In addition to apparel in sizes from small to 2XL the boutique carries jewelry, accessories, home décor and gifts.
