This first annual Ugly Sweater Party on Dec. 17 is a way of uniting the communities and promote the Nicholas property, along with raise funds for its upkeep and improvement, Tom Turiano, NIA President told Daily Voice.

"We try and host events all year long that are for both members of the association, which requires someone to be a Nichols resident, and non-members that then includes the entire town to get together and enjoy the residents of our community."

The association is a non-profit organization chartered with helping to preserve the heritage and distinctive character of the Nichols community, Turiano said.

The NIA is located in the heart of the historic Nichols Farm district, on 42 acres, also home to the Bunny Fountain, Five Pennies Park, Frog Pond, the Meadow & Gazebo, Moore Ball Fields and Starkweather House. The property also includes the Nichols Green, site of the flag pole, Christmas Tree and WWI and WWII memorials.

Tickets to the 7 p.m. party are $20 for members; $30 for non-members. Open bar and desserts are included. Guests are asked to bring a pot-luck appetizer.
