STAMFORD, Conn. -- Previously undefeated Boot Camp dropped two games last week in the Springdale Little League, setting up an important week to close out the first half of the season.
Carpentry Unlimited and Boot Camp enter the week with 6-2 records. They play twice this week, the results of which could determine the first half champion. Carpentry Unlimited 3, RMS 1: Solid pitching, speed and defense helped Carpentry Unlimited slip past RMS Construction 3-1. Matt Tiplady (seven strikeouts) and Nick Chuckas (four Ks) put the hammer down on the mound while Henry Carucci flashed the leather in the field for Carpentry, which managed just three hits but six stolen bases in the game. Justin Palmer and Jay Nieves supplied two hits each for RMS. Nieves struck out six in his pitching debut while Drew Papp handled the relief. Matt Mattioli, 9, had a fine debut behind the plate for RMS. Clairol 8, Boot Camp 2: Clairol snapped Boot Camp’s undefeated streak with an 8-2 triumph. Pitchers Joey Price and Ben Servedio combined to hold the Boot Camp lineup to just five hits en route to striking out seven. Jelani Jackson had three hits; Price, two; and catcher Tyler Gillman added one while showing great hustle on the bases for Clairol. Mark Lombardo had two hits for Boot Camp, which fell to 6-1 in the first half. Pitchers Ryan Lionetti, Austin Byrnes and Robert Smeriglio struck out nine batters while yielding only six hits. Carpentry Unlimited 6, RMS Construction 3: Patrick Teasdale’s three hits led Carpentry Unlimited to a 6-3 win over RMS Construction. Matt Rubino and Matt Tiplady had two hits each for Carpentry while Matt Doyle, Jack Hoch and Pete Johnson each supplied one; Joe Johnson added sparkle on defense. RMS starter Erik Bannister led his team from the mound and at the plate, striking out nine and smacking two doubles. Two-base hits were added by Todd Guttman, Anthony Karwaski (ground rule two-bagger that bounced over the left center field fence) and Drew Papp, who also pitched in relief. Javier Peters, Brian Wei, Isaac Cadigan, Ethan Wilburn and Jay Nieves all added singles. Clairol 8, Boot Camp 4: Clairol won its fourth straight after starting the season 0-4, rallying from an early deficit to defeat first place Boot Camp 8-4. Clairol’s Joey Price, who had three hits and scored on two wild pitches, came within one batter of throwing a complete game. Jelani Jackson crushed a three-run homer to left and added another hit. Tyler Gillman, David Marciczkiewicz, Calvin McKeever (double), Christopher Price and Ben Servedio contributed to the hitting attack. Third baseman Jay Daniel made several sparkling plays to keep Boot Camp off base. Max Goldfluss drove in three runs with a triple and a single for Boot Camp while Robert Smeriglio, Ryan Lionetti and Evan Field added hits. AAA Division U.S. Computer Connection 9, P2 Telecom 8: James Fahan’s walk-off triple let U.S. Computer Connection finally defeat P2 Telecom in a suspended game. U.S. Computer’s Connor Sullivan pitched three near-perfect innings, walking just one, to pick up the win. Avery Mui belted a bases-clearing double to drive in three runs for U.S. Computer to tie the game in the bottom of the third. P2 pitchers Luke Noonan and Mike Iorfino, aided by the defense of Lucas Giantomidis, kept their team in the game until the end. U.S. Computer Connection 5, Mulberry Landscaping 2: Connor Sullivan's grand slam led U.S. Computer Connection to a 5-2 win over Mulberry Landscaping. Casey Ciocci added an RBI, driving in Chase Senecal who led off the 5th with a double. Solid pitching contributions came from starter John Ryan Dowling, Connor (credited with the win) and James Fahan (save). Mulberry held the lead for the game’s first half, thanks to three scoreless innings of pitching and great fielding from Ameer Theodore and RBIs from Aidan Nestor and Brandon Velez. OneVac 11, P2 Telecom 1: Kyle Bancroft and Kristofer Dushi combined for 14 strikeouts to pitch OneVac to a 14-1 victory over P2 Telecom. Bancroft added three hits as did Brian Smith while Dushi, Nick Valenzano, A.J. Hodel and Daniel Vetti banged out two hits each for OneVac.
Luke Noonan went two-for-two for P2; Mike Iorfino added a double. Jerry Conetta, Stevie Garst and Harold Alvarez contributed on defense.
