Stamford Team Moves On in TV 'Challenge'

STAMFORD, Conn. — After two successful matches on MSG Varsity’s “The Challenge,” Stamford's Westhill High School will take on Fairfield Ludlowe in the regional semi-final match on May 8.

The Westhill team defeated Bridgeport Central, 345-180, in Round 1, and bested Greenwich, 375-240, to become one of the last four Connecticut teams remaining in the tournament, an MSG Varsity press release said.

Westhill teachers Joseph Aibinder and Michael Capriotti and students Dixita Viswanath, Skyler Ross (captain), Zachary Kaplove, Patrick Hamon and Joanna Koczuk (alternate) are vying on the 15th season of “The Challenge.”

The television show pits 192 schools from Connecticut, Long Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester/Lower Hudson Valley and New Jersey in trivia contests in an elimination tournament.

The regional winner will earn $2,500 for its school and advance to the championship rounds against the other winners. The tri-state champions will earn $10,000 in prize money, and each student participating in the championship match will receive $500.

The regional semi-final matchup between Westhill and Fairfield will be aired at 6:30 p.m. on May 8 on MSG Varsity.
