Zachary Maller told police he was in a “controlled wheelie” with his motorcycle as he raced northbound on Washington Boulevard before he lost control during what he called a “death wobble” Sunday night.
It didn’t help Maller, 23, of 60 MacArthur Lane, that he was seen speeding on Washington Boulevard just before 10:30 p.m. by three officers who were at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Broad Street, said Sgt. Robert Shawinsky.
Maller lost control of his motorcycle and slid for about 250 feet before coming to a rest near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Hoyt Street. During the slide he narrowly avoided serious injury after slicing through a guide wire attached to a utility pole, Shawinsky said.
“He struck a guide wire from a phone pole and severed it in half and continued straight on,” Shawinsky said.
The three officers had just begun to follow Maller but he crashed before they could do anything, Shawinsky said.
Maller was charged with one count of reckless driving .
He was taken to Stamford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
