DUI Arrests Up Over Long Holiday Weekend In Connecticut

Connecticut State Police reported one fatality on state highways over the long July 4th holiday weekend, and troopers also made nearly twice as many DUI arrests as last year.

Connecticut State Troopers had stepped up patrols on highways and roads in Connecticut from 12:01 a.m. June 30 through 11:59 p.m. July 4.

Troopers were focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were also in place over the entire weekend.

Here are the State Police statistics for the long weekend: 

  • Speeding infractions: 1,368
  • Total moving violations: 2,941 (includes unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cellphone use, etc.) 
  • DUI arrets: 60 
  • Accidents investigated: 398, with 50 with injuries and one fatality   

For comparison ,here are the statistics from the 2016 Independence Day Weekend Enforcement by state police:

  • Speeding: 1,227
  • Total moving violations: 2,913
  • DUI arrests: 39
  • Accidents investigated: 315, with 45 with injuries and 3 fatalities in two accidents
