STAMFORD, Conn. A Stamford resident has been hospitalized after testing positive for West Nile Virus, a news release from the states Department of Public Health said.
This is the second human case in state a New Haven resident was admitted previously, the release said.
The person is between 60 and 69 years of age and was hospitalized late in July after suffering from a fever and severe muscle weakness as a result of the infection, the release said. The victims condition is improving, the release said.
The state has found infected mosquitoes consistently from July 27 through Aug. 8 in Stamford, and in over 40 towns across Connecticut, the release said.
DPH urges everyone to take the risk of mosquito-transmitted illnesses seriously and take precautions to prevent mosquito bites, Dr. Randall Nelson, state public health veterinarian with the Department of Public Health, said in the release. The mosquito trapping and testing program has been very effective in providing an early warning of the threat of infections in people.
