Poet Shares 'Euphoric' Works on Saturday

Haitian-American poet Keren Dongo will hold a book signing at the South End Branch Library, 34 Woodland Ave., at 2 p.m. Saturday. Dongo will discuss and sign copies of her new book, "Sung Sister." The event, which is supported by the Friends of Ferguson, is free and open to the public.

Poems in "Sung Sister" focus on women who overcome various life situations. "Most of the poems encapsulate the lives of different women going through a variety of experiences," Dongo says on her web site www.sungsister.com. She adds that the book's title refers to a "euphoric feeling" of triumph.

"To be sung is to be free and to be free is to live again," Dongo says. "Each poem is an experience and each experience is a reminder of her testimonies that she finally made it through the precarious journeys of life which provided the melodies captured in her songs."

Dongo, who was born and raised in Stamford and now works in Washington, D.C., says her strong family bond and Christian faith also influence the poetry in "Sung Sister." The book may be purchased through her web site.
