Will Shortz Puzzles Out Rules For Annual Crossword Tournament In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Hundreds turned out for the 39th annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in Stamford on Saturday.

The Daily Voice asked the tournament's organizer, Will Shortz, for an overview of the event. Shortz, a resident of Pleasantville, N.Y., is the crossword editor for the New York Times.

This year's tournament boasted a first-time winner: Howard Barkin of Hillsborough, N.J.

Connecticut was well represented at the tournament, with over 30 competitors from towns including Danbury, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield Stamford and Westport.
