A Milford Police officer has been charged with negligent homicide in connection with the July 20, 2018, death of a 50-year-old pedestrian who was hit and killed by the officer.

Courtney Bothwell, 28, of North Haven, was charged Wednesday, Jan. 2, by Hamden Police following an investigation into the crash on Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Old Dixwell Avenue, said Hamden Capt. Ronald Smith.

According to Smith, the investigation revealed that Kristin Wilczynski, 50, of North Haven was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a motor vehicle that was driven by Bothwell.

Hamden Police and Hamden Fire Department personnel rendered medical assistance. Wilczynski was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

Officer Kevin Hall conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Bothwell.

Bothwell was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian and distracted driving/not cell.

She was released on a written promise to appear ticket, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 14.
