The incident took place around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 when New York State Police received two calls, one of a people out on the ice with a pink sled and another about a dog stuck on the ice at the reservoir between Route 35 and Cherry Street in Katonah, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.

The area is a popular site for ice fishing, so it would not be unusual for someone to have been on the ice.

Following the calls, three fire departments, including Yorktown Heights, Katonah, Bedford Hills, Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Westchester EMS, officials from DEP and state police rushed to the scene to search for anyone who may be in trouble.

Hicks said an entire search of the reservoir and surrounding docks, landings and beaches was conducted by air and sea.

Heat seeking sonar was used to try and detect any warm spots under the water, helicopters flew over the scene and several ice dive teams, and rescue boats searched the entire body of water, he said.

"When you have two calls reporting trouble on the ice, you can't take any chances and a complete search needs to be conducted," Hicks said.

After four hours, and a complete search of the area conducted, the search was called off around 9:20 p.m. he said.
