Xtreme Cheerleaders Jump to a Winning Start

NORWALK, Conn. – The Xtreme cheerleading team won two events and finished second in another as the squads kicked off a new season of competition at the JamFest Cheer and Dance event last weekend in Worcester, Mass.

The Norwalk-based Xtreme cheerleaders, coached by Mike and Dana Talbot, include athletes from Fairfield and Westchester counties.

The Blaze, Xtreme’s Co-ed Level 3 team, took first place at JamFest. The Blaze, ranked No. 1 in the country, includes girls ages 14 and under.

The Shimmer, a Junior Level 3 team, also took first place. The girls on the team are 14 and under. The Shine, a Senior Level 2 team, finished in second place. The Shine includes girls ages 18 and under.

Levels in cheerleading refer to the difficulty of the routines. The higher the level number, the more demanding the requirements in a routine.

“It was definitely a good showing for us in our first competition of the year,’’ Dana Talbot said. “We were kind of unsure how the Blaze would do. They were competing against some very good teams. They exceeded our expectations.”

Xtreme will begin competing next month with two new teams, a Level 1 team for girls ages 11-and-under and an international Level 5 co-ed team for athletes 14-and-up.
