Weston Rower on U.S. Team for Last-Chance Meet

WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s Nick LaCava has been named to the U.S. men’s lightweight four crew team that will compete in the Final Qualification Regatta on May 20-23 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The team will need to finish in the top two at the regatta to earn a berth in Summer Olympics, which will be held in July in London.

LaCava’s teammates are Robin Prenders, Will Newell and Anthony Fahden. LaCava and Newll won the lightweight men’s pair event at the first National Selection Regatta and were members of the lightweight eight that finished fifth at last year’s World Rowing Championships.

LaCava attended Phillips Exeter Academy and competed at Columbia University. He began rowing at the Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport.

The crew was also announced for the U.S. team that will compete in the men's eight in the Final Qualification Regatta. Norwalk's Dan Walsh, who earned a bronze medal with the U.S. team in 2008 Olympic Games, was not selected for the team. Walsh is expected to remain in the U.S. training camp and could be selected for the team in men's quad or the men's four, which will be named on June 22.
