Triathletes Get One Last Run in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Fairfield County triathletes get one of their final chances to dip their toes in the waters of Long Island Sound Sunday in Westport, capping a summer in which three county triathlons were canceled,

The Westport Kiwanis Club triathlon begins at 7:30 a.m. at Compo Beach. It includes a half-mile swim, a 5.5-mile bike ride and a 2.2-mile run. One of the shortest triathlons in the area, it had 207 finishers last year.

The final county triathlon of the year takes place Sept. 17 in Danbury. There is also a duathlon in Ridgefield on Sept. 18.

Two late-season county triathlons from last year will not be held this year. The ITPMan Triathlon in Darien is taking a one-year hiatus from its usual September date due to construction at Weed Beach. A September triathlon in Fairfield was canceled, though race organizers hope to revive it next year. Hurricane Irene washed out a triathlon for women last month in Norwalk.
