Road Races Kick Off In Danbury, Norwalk And Darien

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The fall running season kicks off this week with races in Danbury, Norwalk and Darien. There are races nearly every weekend in Fairfield County from September through November, with an occasional bike race, duathlon or triathlon sprinkled in.

There’s also a new race in Weston this fall, the Reservoir Run half-marathon, on Nov. 4. Many local runners are also training for fall marathons, with Hartford, Marine Corps in Washington, D.C., New York and Philadelphia among the top destinations.

Racing this week gets started Thursday with the King of the Hill 5k in Danbury. The 13th annual race, which benefits the United Way of Western Connecticut, starts at a new location at the Matrix Corporate Center, 39 Old Ridgebury Road in Danbury.

The Sam Elpern Half-Marathon begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Fox Run Elementary School in Norwalk. The race is sponsored by Norwalk-based Lightfoot Running Club.

On Sunday, the 31st annual Darien 10k Road Race begins at 1 p.m. at Pear Tree Point.

Also on Sunday is the Tour de Greenwich bike race.
