NORWALK, Conn. -- After a one-week heat delay, the Lightfoot Summer Series resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday with a 7-mile run at Brien McMahon High School. The Westport Summer Series continues on Saturday with a 4.7-mile run. There is also a 5K run Friday in Trumbull.
The 7-miler at Brien McMahon is part of the five-race series sponsored by Norwalk Recreation and Parks and Norwalk-based Lightfoot Running Club. There is also a 9-mile race on Aug. 6 and an 11-mile race on Aug. 27. Lightfoot's final race of the summer is a half marathon on Sept. 10. The complete schedule and registration information is available on the Lightfoot Runners website.
The Westport race also begins at 8 a.m. The race had a record 167 finishers in last week's 4.1-mile race, despite temperatures that exceeded 90 degrees late in the day. Norwalk's Nouredine Abdelfateh won the race.
Runners looking to get the weekend started early can race in a 5K in Trumbull beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
Next week, opportunities abound for recreational athletes, with triathlons or road races in Norwalk, Westport, Darien and Greenwich. Visit hitekracing.com for a complete schedule of racing events.
