Norwalk U15 Lacrosse Team Finishes 15-1

The Norwalk Junior Lacrosse Association Boys U15 White team capped off a tremendous season by winning the CONNY Silver Division championship with victories over New Milford and Newtown last week in New Haven. The team finished with a 15-1 record.

In the championship game, Norwalk avenged its only loss of the season by beating Newtown, 8-3. The team was one of the most successful in the Norwalk program's history, coach Jim Lyons said. "These young men exceeded my expectations; I'm just delighted and pleasantly surprised,'' Lyons said.

The team was led in scoring by attack-midfielder Zack Grimm; midfielder CJ York; attack Lars Hammer; and attack Chris Gatt.

Norwalk's attack also featured Ryan Deering and Tommy Vicenzi. Throughout the season, the team maintained ground ball possession led by faceoff specialist Charlie Erdmann, a midfielder, and Kyle Prescott, also a midfielder.

The defensive midfield was led by big stick midfielder Dom DeRosa, along with Justin Brown and Vinny Romano. The defense was led by goalie Sam Shafer and defensive standouts Finn Maloney, Tucker Gouin, Vasili Nikiforides, Ryan Schneider and Michael Harris.

"About halfway through the season, I started to see what differentiated this team from others was they controlled the ground,'' said Lyons, who has been coaching in the program on and off for 20 years. "Their ability to go after ground balls and control the tempo of the game was the big difference."

The team includes: front, from left: Willie Erdman (coaches' helper), Chris Gatt, Zack Grimm, Ryan Deering, Sam Shafer, Lars Hammer, Tommy Vicenzi and Dom DeRosa.

Second row, from left: Head Coach Jim Lyons, Coach Jeff Erdmann, Vinny Romano, Ryan Schneider, Finn Maloney, Charlie Erdmann, Justin Brown, Michael Harris and Coach Vin Romano.

Third row, from left: Coach Chris Lacroix, Kyle Prescott, Vasili Nikiforides, Tucker Gouin, Coach Lou DeRosa, CJ York and Coach Pete Gatt.
