Several Norwalk kids helped the Wilton Y Wahoos clinch their 25th consecutive Connecticut YMCA State Swimming Championship title. The Wilton Y Wahoos have won the Connecticut Y state championship title every year since 1987. The team this year scored an impressive 4,837 points overall in the meet earlier this month. Greenwich YWCA was second with 2,643 overall team points.
In the 11-12 age group, Ky-lee Perry of Norwalk took home gold 50 free and silver in the 100 back. She touched sixth in the 50 butterfly. Teammate Dakota Meyer placed second in the 50 breast, fourth in the 100 back and sixth in the 200 IM. Sean Leary was 12th in the 50 backstroke.
Norwalk's Dillon DiGuglielmo, swimming in the 13-14 age group, racked up many points for the Wahoos, finishing fourth in the 100 breast, eighth in the 500 free, ninth in the 200 free, seventh in the 200 breast, and 11th in the 200 back. Alexis Alvarez, 13, finished sixth in the 100 back, 500 free and 200 backstroke. Kimberly Devine also swam fast for the Wahoos, posting a personal best in the 100 breast, while teammate Madison Meyer sliced more than eight seconds off her best in the 100 butterfly.
Swimming in the 15-18 age group, Margaret Alvarez also put in impressive performances as part of the title-winning effort. She posted best-ever times in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly and took a whopping eight seconds off her previous best in the 400 IM.
