Norwalk Race One Of Many On Tap This Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Fairfield County running scene heats up along with the spring temperatures as races are planned this weekend in Norwalk, Westport, Danbury, Stamford, Wilton and Darien.

Carol Clark of Westport won her age group at las year's Minute Man 5k in Westport. The 35th annual edition of the race, which also includes a 10k and races for kids, will be run Sunday at Compo Beach.

Perhaps the centerpiece of this weekend’s running is the 35th annual Minute Man 5k and 10k at Compo Beach in Westport. The event is sponsored by the Westport Young Woman’s League, and also includes races for kids. More than 1,000 runners competed in last year’s events. The 5k begins at 8:30, and the 10k begins at 8:40. Kids’ races start at 8:30. Registration is available online.

Saturday’s race schedule begins with the third annual Daffodil Dash 5k in Wilton at 8:30 a.m. Speedy runners could zoom to Danbury to the Running for Life 5k in Rogers Park or a 5k at Western Connecticut State University Westside. Both races begin at 10 a.m.

In Norwalk, the 10th annual Whittingham Walk and Sally’s 5k Run begin at 11 a.m. at Calf Pasture Beach. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Proceeds support the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.

On Sunday, the Race Against Lyme 5k starts in Stamford at 9 a.m. The DAWS Run Your Tail Off 5k and kids fun run will be held at the Matrix Corporate Center in Danbury. The kids race begins at 9:10 a.m. and registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

The 5-mile YW Race Against Racism starts at 8 a.m. at Cherry Lawn Park in Darien.
