Norwalk 8th-Grader Named Football All-American

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s B.J. Buckle, an eighth-grade football player at St. Luke’s in New Canaan, has been selected to play in the Eastbay Youth All-American Game on Sunday in San Antonio, Tex.

Buckle, an offensive lineman, will play for the East eighth-grade team in a game against the West eighth-graders. The game will be played at the Alamo Dome. Buckle is the only Connecticut player on the East 185-pound team.

Boys are nominated to participate in the game, and a selection committee narrows the field to 40 players. Buckle caught the attention of coaches with his performance with the Connecticut All-Star team in the fall.

“B.J. is a special player,’’ St. Luke’s coach Ryan Brown said. “He started for our varsity team’s offensive line as an eighth-grader, and that says a lot about his ability. He has the opportunity to develop into a truly great lineman during the next few years. Not only is he a great player, he’s a great student athlete who always has a smile on his face. He’s going to be fun to watch."

Buckle, who plays saxophone with the school band, will also play for the St. Luke’s baseball team.
