Neighbors and archrivals New Canaan High (10-1) and Darien High (12-0) will kickoff at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at West Haven High School.
The Rams from New Canaan will be looking for their second straight state title and seventh since 2001.
The top-seeded Blue Wave are seeking their first state title since 1996. They are also looking to match the achievements of its teams from 1956, ‘57 and ‘79, each of which went undefeated.
Darien, however, has been a thorn in the Rams’ side lately. New Canaan beat Darien for the Class L title last year, 44-12, but that is their only win in the last four meetings. New Canaan but has lost its last three Thanksgiving Day match-ups against Darien.
New Canaan appeared to be on its way to a win in the most recent meeting between the teams in the Turkey Bowl game. The Rams sprinted to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Blue Wave’s defense stiffened and blanked the Rams from there en route to a 28-21 overtime win.
Saturday's game will be the 88th between the bordering schools. The Rams lead the series, 49-36-2, while Darien has won three of the last four meetings. New Canaan has won seven state titles since 2001, and 19 overall.
Tickets for Saturday's game are available online through the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference website. Livetracking will also be available on that site.
