Cross Collects 100th Win as McMahon Tops Norwalk

John Cross tasted victory for the 100th time as the coach of the Brien McMahon baseball team, and, boy, it was sweet. The Senators improved to 2-0 with 6-2 victory over city rival Norwalk behind the three-hit pitching of senior Eric Stenger before a large night crowd at McMahon's field.

"It's a small little milestone, but it's especially nice to get it against Norwalk,'' said Cross, who is in his ninth year. "They're a class program. I didn't think we'd be 2-0 right out of the box."

McMahon backed up Wednesday's 16-7 rout of Bunnell with a brilliant effort from Stenger, who fanned nine and did not walk a batter. Jonathan Cohen's two-run homer in the second accounted for Norwalk's scoring. "Eric pitched fabulous,'' Cross said.

Nick Cafero had two hits, while Aleko Petridis scored two runs and Bryan Daniello had three stolen bases for McMahon. The Senators took control of the game with a four-run third.

The Bears (0-2) have yet to find their hitting stride, but coach Angelo Bruno is confident they will. "We've only scored three runs in two games, but these guys have proven they can hit at this level and they will,'' Bruno said. "It will take a little time but we'll be fine."
