NORWALK, Conn. -- Six wrestlers from the Norwalk Mad Bulls competed last weekend in the Eastern National Wrestling Championships in Salisbury, Md.

Nicky Singer finished third overall in his weight division, and Ryan Schneider and Dean Tsiranides finished seventh. The tournament featured more than 10,000 wrestlers that began in March with a grueling elimination series.

Singer and Schneider earned All-American honors. Mad Bull middle school wrestling phenom Dean Tsiranides, who lost the opening round of the competition in overtime to the number one seed from Carlisle, Pa. battled through consolation rounds to a strong seventh place finish. He defeated the New Jersey state champion, 2-0, in the final consolation round.

“Dean Tsiranides is now on everyone’s wrestling radar he has really poured it on as of late with these out of state competitions,'' head coach Art Schad said. "Dean knocked off some wrestlers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with impressive resumes all while building his own list tournament wins and place finishes. He has emerged as a team leader, always working hard and setting the pace, setting a great example for the younger wrestlers on our team to follow.”

Making his first trip to the national scene, sixth grader Nick Augeri garnered All-American honors as well placing a respectable 8th place and earning his spot on the podium during the awards ceremony.

Wrestling well for the Mad Bulls but failing to place was Brendan Gilchrist and two-time national qualifier Jason Singer.

"It was an honor to coach these kids alongside coaches Jason Singer and Brian Schneider,'' Schad said. "We all witness some amazing wrestling results from our kids, they wrestled with heart. We couldn't possibly ask for more as coaches."
