Ponus Ridge Kids Show Off Heritage in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s Ponus Ridge Middle School took a trip around the world, sort of, during the school's recent annual International Festival.

Sixth-graders showcased their family heritages from places such as the Seychelles, Ukraine, Jamaica, India, Germany, Barbados, Colombia and Peru. They also prepared a typical food from their country for the June 6 festival.

“We have children whose families come from all over the world, and it’s important for them to learn about different cultures in order to recognize, respect and celebrate this diversity,” said sixth-grade social studies teacher Racquel Sesler.

The students were joined by visitors and their family members. The festival is a way for students, their families and friends to learn about their heritage, Sesler said.
