Mother & Daughter Keep It In the Family

Who better to teach you the ins and outs of real estate than your own mother? That’s the way Laura Calabrese saw it when she teamed up with her mom, Susan Calabrese, a successful broker with Coldwell Banker/Curtis.

Susan’s professional life started off far from the world of open houses and lock boxes.  A successful stage actress, playing with the likes of Michael Landon and Alan King, Susan transitioned into commercials in the late 70s, a career that enabled her to work around her two children’s school and athletic schedules. Conversation at the dinner table often revolved around real estate, since her husband was in the commercial real estate business in New York City. When Susan decided she wanted to move out from behind the camera, selling homes seemed an appropriate option. “I left the world of commercials to do something where it mattered who I was, where my integrity counted,” she explained when I met her in her lovely home.

Laura, a graduate of Greenwich High and Fairfield University, worked in marketing and advertising for a few years before deciding that she would much rather move into real estate as her mother’s partner. “I have had a great teacher, and we love being together,” she said, smiling at Susan.

The two always work as a team from their office in Old Greenwich, which is a great asset for their clients. “People need to feel they are being supported through the process of buying or selling their home,” said Susan. “We provide service, service and more service. One of us is always available.” Their age difference also works to their advantage. Recently Susan received a call from a broker in Boston whose daughter was moving to Fairfield County. The broker loved the fact that Laura would know all the “in” places for her daughter – and that Susan would be there keeping an eye on everything.
