Born To Sell ... And Cook

Sharon Rosano’s mother didn’t quite know what to make of her daughter when the ten-year old started reading the New York Time’s Real Estate section every Sunday. “I would sit at the breakfast table poring over the ads for houses – I thought it was fascinating,” Sharon said.

Fast forward a few years and jump from Bergen County, New Jersey to Fairfield County, Connecticut, and you’ll find Sharon still happily reading the real estate pages, but this time she’s looking at them with a professional eye. Sharon is an agent with Raveis in New Canaan and she specializes in selling luxury homes– and the builder of these luxury homes is often her husband of 15 years, Richard. Since Sharon has a good sense of what the buyers of these estate-like homes are looking for, she is involved in all the details that distinguish a luxury home. “I design the kitchen and all the bathrooms,” she said. “We are building beautiful homes for people we haven’t yet met, so I try to make sure that everything is perfect and the way I would want it to be.”

The Rosanos have called New Canaan home since 1998.  “We both love the town – it’s where we were meant to be,” said Sharon, “New Canaan has a wonderful sense of community and there is so much for our daughters to do.  Sophia, eight, and Samantha, six, attend the public schools which Sharon thinks are excellent.  “I also love all the restaurants, many of which are great kid-friendly places – like Vicollo’s for pizza and Tequila Mockingbird,” she added.

Sharon loves to cook so the family mostly eats at home. “Our life revolves around family and friends, so in the summer, we have casual gatherings around the pool and cook in our outdoor kitchen area.  In the winter we have brunches and dinner parties – I rarely cater.

Here’s one of Sharon’s favorite, make ahead brunch recipes.  Butter a 9x13 pan.  Cube 8 slices bread and lay in pan, add 1lb cubed ham over the bread.  Mix 6 eggs, 2 cups milk, ½ tsp mustard, salt and pepper, and pour into pan then sprinkle ½ lb shredded cheese over the top.  Cover and chill in refrigerator over night.  Preheat oven to 350, take pan out of fridge 20 minutes before baking and sprinkle oregano over the top.  Bake covered for 50 minutes and uncovered for 10.
