Agent Knows the Value of Homework

If you want to do well in life, you have to do your homework. Just ask Monica Collins at Anderson Associates in Greenwich.

“The more you know the better off you are,” Collins says. With 18 years of experience as a real estate agent, she has learned the importance of becoming a bit of a historian on every property she sells.

Often a home’s history is tied up in variances and land-use decisions. Sometimes it’s something a bit more interesting. A three-family home Collins recently listed dates to the 1800s. Many prospective buyers already had their own stories revolving around its history, including one claiming a previous owner had a hand in designing the fishing rod reel.

“It’s fun to be able to give someone the history on a property, to show them what it was then and what is now,” says Collins.

Her dedication to getting the details hasn’t slipped the notice of her peers. Carolyn Anderson praises Collins for being kind, ethical and knowledgeable. Anderson insists that her agents live and breathe Greenwich, and in her esteem, Collins more than meets muster.

Aside from the research, Collins feels an agent must be a part of the community if they want to be successful. A native of Rye, NY.,  she’s been in Greenwich for 30 years. She’s raised children in Greenwich and learned the idiosyncrasies and amenities of the myriad of neighborhoods in town. That information helps her find the perfect home for her clients.

For now, the market remains in the hands of the buyers with low interest rates and lots of inventory on the market. Collins isn’t overly fond of that term or the word house for that matter.

“House is such a cold word. You buy a house, move in and make it your home,” she says. Looking around at the town outside the office walls, she says, “This is my home.”
