The two Republican nominees are campaigning together under the slogan “Stand for Norwalk.”

“Both Emily and I have long personal records of standing up for the citizens of this community rather than for special interests, and I think everyone in the community respects that,” McCarthy said in a news release.

McCarthy is in his first two-year term on the Common Council. In his campaign announcement he touted his work on the money-saving plan to outsource garbage collection and switch to single-stream recycling, to reallocate capital spending to address inland flooding and to set up the Budget Cap Agreement to fully fund the Board of Education budget.

Of his running mate, McCarthy adds that Wilson is “selfless, intelligent, always willing to help others and dedicated to moving the city forward,” in their campaign announcement.

“Norwalkers have placed their trust in us to represent them, so it’s important to me to give priority to the voice of the citizens,” Wilson said in a news release. “It’s important for me to recognize not just the few who shout the loudest, but everyone.”

Professionally, McCarthy works for IBM in the capital markets group. Outside of his work on the Common Council he is also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus, Council 14360, and he mentors a third-grade student at Brookside School.

Wilson is an attorney with a locally-based practice. She is also a member of the board of directors for the Norwalk Senior Center and has been head moderator for all Norwalk elections for the last four years.

Both are vying to win the two seats on the Council from District E, which represents Rowayton, Brookside and West Norwalk.
