Police: Norwalk Man Caught Burglar In Act

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man walked into his garage workshop Thursday and found a man trying to remove the copper wiring, Norwalk police say. Two people were arrested in the attempted theft, Lt. Praveen John said.

The resident of 2 Selleck St. called police at 5:48 p.m. The intruder in his detached garage apologized and walked away, John said. The victim gave a description of the burglar, and an officer found a suspect 200 yards away.

The victim identified the suspect, Layvurn Simmons, 49, of 8 Couch St., as the man who had been trying to steal his copper, John said. Simmons was with Jeanette Morton, 53, of 16 Summerfield St., Bridgeport. Both were arrested.

Morton was charged with sixth-degree larceny, criminal attempt, conspiracy and third-degree burglary. Simmons was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy and sixth-degree larceny. Each was held on $6,000 bond.
