Opiate-Laced Crack Leads To 5 Overdoses, 2 Fatal, In One Day In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. — Two people died and three others were hospitalized after they suffered drug overdoses on Saturday in five separate incidents across the city, Norwalk police said.

The overdoses appeared be linked to crack cocaine that was laced with an opiate, police said.

The first three drug overdoses occurred between 8 and 9 a.m. Saturday, police said. The first occurred on Quaker Road, the second on Suncrest Road and the third on Perry Avenue, police said.

Two people died as a result, and the third remained in the hospital, police said.

At 1:38 p.m., officers responded to the Garden Park Motel at 351 Westport Ave. for another drug overdose, police said. There, officers found a man suffering from a drug overdose in one of the rooms, police said.

He was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he remained hospitalized, police said. 

In the fifth overdose of the day, a person was transported to Norwalk Hospital from an address on Arch Street, police said. 

Preliminary investigations showed that the cause of all five overdoses was crack cocaine possibly laced with an opiate. 

Detectives are awaiting the results of a lab analysis of evidence seized from the scenes. 

A total of eight overdoses have been reported during the month of July in Norwalk, police said. 

Norwalk detectives and the Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating these cases, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is assisting with the investigations into the deaths, police said.
