Norwalk Police Arrest Five On Cocaine Charges After DUI Stop

NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk man was arrested on drunken driving charges and four passengers in his car were arrested on drug charges after police found nearly 10 grams of cocaine, according to the Hour.

Early Saturday morning, a Norwalk police officer on patrol pulled over a car when the driver was suspected of being under the influence, police told the Hour. The driver, 38-year-old Juan Figueroa, pulled into a parking lot on Madison street and ran over a curb, the Hour reported.

When the officer approached the car, one of the passengers, 42-year-old Oscar Valdovinos of Norwalk, was seen trying to hide a plastic bag with a white powdery substance, according to the Hour. The substance was revealed to be cocaine, and when police searched the car with a K9 unit, they found 17 more baggies containing a total of 9.6 grams of cocaine, according to the Hour.

All five men in the car denied that the cocaine was theirs, according to the Hour. Figueroa, Valdovinos and the other three passengers, 26-year-old Antonio Mendez, 34-year-old Alberto Aguilar-Cano, and 38-year-old Ferdinand Quinonez-Rivera, were all taken into custody, according to the Hour.

All five men were charged with sale of certain illegal drugs, and possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school. Figueroa was also administered a field sobriety test and failed, and was additionally charged with operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle under suspension, according to the Hour.

Mendez, Aguilar-Cano and Quinonez-Rivera were all given $5,000 bonds, while Figueroa and Valdovinos were given $10,000 bonds. All were given court dates of Sept. 6.
