Janina Mirowska Potrykus, 85, Of Norwalk, Holocaust Survivor

NORWALK, Conn. — Janina Mirowska Potrykus, of Norwalk, died Thursday, March 7. She was 85.

Potrykus was born Dec 31, 1927, in Wola Korybutowiecka, Poland, a daughter of Jan and Zofia (Wojtowicz) Mirowski. She married Grzegorz Potrykus on Feb. 27, 1954, in Slough, England. One of the survivors of the Holocaust, she traveled through Europe, Siberia and North Africa, before coming to the U.S. in 1958.

Potrykus is survived by her children; John, Roman and Steven Potrykus, and Elizabeth Potrykus Morrell, all of Norwalk; four grandchildren; and a sister, Helena Tomasiewicz. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Zdzislaw, Michael and Stephan Mirowski and Irena Ostasiewicz.

Calling hours are Saturday, March 9, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Philip Church, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
