Alice Mackinson, 86, Norwalk Native

NORWALK, Conn. – Alice D. Mackinson, a former Norwalk resident, died July 21 at her home in Bound Brook, N.J. She was 86. 

The daughter of Eugene and Helena Collins Devine, she was born in Norwalk, where she lived until moving to Bound Brook in 1961. Mackinson attended College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J., receiving a degree in economics in 1947. 

She volunteered at many area nursing homes, playing piano for residents. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Bound Brook, where she was involved in many of the parish ministries and activities. 

Mackinson was predeceased by her husband Frank A. Mackinson Jr. in 2011, a brother Eugene Devine and a sister Eleanore McMahon.

She is survived by two sons Frank A. (Irene) Mackinson III of Bound Brook, Bill (Lynn) Mackinso of Peabody, Mass. and Jim (Leslie) Mackinson of Charlotte, N.C., a daughter Mary Ellen (Jay) Fleming of Woodbridge, Va., two sisters Claire D. Driscoll of South Portland, Maine and Elaine D. Mullen of Norwalk, a brother William J. (Marie) Devine of East Norwalk, 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will begin 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home in Bound Brook. A Mass of Christian burial will then be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway, N.J. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. 

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church in Bound Brook.
