Norwalk Mayor Rilling Declares Snow Emergency: Move Your Car

NORWALK, Conn. — Mayor Harry Rilling has declared a snow emergency for Norwalk, effective at 6 p.m. Wednesday in advance of a winter storm expected to dump up to a foot of snow across the area by Thursday afternoon.

Residents are reminded to move their cars off the snow routes in Norwalk due to the approaching snowstorm.

In order to allow Public Works crews to plow, residents are reminded to move their vehicles off the streets. Vehicles parked on streets marked as snow emergency routes may be ticketed and towed.

Residents can park for free at the Maritime and Yankee Doodle garages only while the snow emergency/CodeRed is in effect.

For safety, residents are asked to limit travel during this snowstorm and make sure vehicles are free of snow and ice before driving.

There is no parking in the open parking lots between 2 and 6 a.m. to allow for snowplowing services.

"Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this winter storm," Rilling said in the statement.

All Norwalk schools will be closed on Thursday.

Also, the Fire Department is asking residents to ‘adopt a hydrant.’ If possible, residents should clear hydrants closest to your property to help firefighters get quick access during fires.
