A Fairfield County man with a conviction for a weapons charge may be heading back behind bars after attempting a great escape from his halfway house in Connecticut.
Branden Huertas, formerly of Norwalk, has pleaded guilty to escaping from custody after he was arrested by members of the Norwalk Police Department Special Services Division on School Street in July when he escaped from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.
Huertas, 36, escaped custody at the Chase Center in Waterbury on June 22, where he had been ordered to complete his term of incarceration following a 2015 conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm. He had been concluding a 60-month prison term.
Sentencing for Huertas has been scheduled for March 20, when he will face up to five years in prison.
