Democrat Richard Blumenthal has been projected by several news organizations as the winner in his battle with Republican Linda McMahon for the U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut. ABC-TV News had Blumenthal leading 53 percent to 45 percent. CBS, Reuters, Fox and NBC also called the race for the Democrat.
The seat was open because Sen. Chris Dodd, a Democrat, is retiring.
